and practical aspects of the grandparenting role as well as how to access
resources -- and how to have fun and quality time with a grandchild with a
disability.
Dr. Thompson is a pediatrician and specialist in children's muscle diseases.
She has cared for children with special problems for over 50 years. She
founded the nonprofit Center for Handicapped Children and Teenagers in San
Francisco and directed its operation for 23 years. She has also worked as a
consultant for six pediatric neuromuscular programs. She is the mother of
two and the grandmother of two and lives in California.
